Manager, Infrastructure, and Support Services

Perimeter Institute manages a highly outsourced environment leveraging IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS Services. This role will have responsibility for services, infrastructure, and networking across cloud and on-premise environments.

The Manager, Infrastructure, and Support Services role is responsible for overseeing all infrastructure and desktop services including Perimeter’s Service Desk, AV services, networking and communication services, and desktop management. This position has a central role in security management within the institute with a focus on risk assessment and treatment for infrastructure and personal computing technology.

The Manager, Infrastructure, and Support Services is responsible for researching and procuring new equipment and systems and for implementing and operating those systems. Responsibilities include: establishing and conducting periodic maintenance processes, monitoring and diagnosing system problems, identifying hardware and software standards as well as recommending new policies and procedures for appropriate use of these systems by Perimeter staff.

As manager, you will be responsible for supervision and mentorship of seven direct reports including service desk, network administration, server management, and AV staff. You will also work closely with the IT management team and decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Procure, deploy, maintain, and monitor shared computing & AV equipment including production, scientific and HPC servers and related equipment
  • Procure, deploy, maintain, and monitor network equipment, firewall, and communication services
  • Manage and monitor security services and perform periodic security audits
  • Plan, manage and operate appropriate system backups
  • Oversight of AV staff and systems for lecture capture and event production
  • Provide 3rd-tier technical support
  • Coordinate and participate in on-call rotation
  • Supervise and mentor technology services team staff
  • Evaluate, select, and implement hardware, software, and services
  • Co-ordinate IT staff and services for PI events
  • Input to annual planning and budget cycles
  • Other duties as required

Education, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

  • College or University degree in computer science or working equivalent
  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in related roles
  • Strong technical knowledge of network, Mac and PC operating systems, including Linux and Microsoft Windows-based operating systems and OS X
  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including advanced routing protocols, client/server programming, and general network design
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity controls and practices
  • Extensive knowledge of operating system administration including configuration of mail systems, network configuration, system installation and configuration, and installation of third-party software
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development
  • Knowledge of video capture, live streaming, and video conferencing technologies and services would be highly valued
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing proposals and documentation, training users in complex topics, communicating with vendors, and interacting positively with management
  • Independent problem solving, and self-direction
